gift that keeps giving

In case you didn't catch it, I just posted the following on Twitter:

You Could Have A Flu Christmas About You...Unless You Are Vaccinated via @ <-- I did :-(

I've been out of commission since December 25.  I put on a Christmas morning breakfast for my family and friends and I felt a bit off, like I was coming down with a little something, but I was admittedly in denial.  Upon hugging me at the door my sister exclaimed;

"OMG! You're burning up!  Are you OK?"

Still in denial, and with the guest list in full attendance at this point, I said;

"I'm fine -- I think it must be my hormones!"

It wasn't until everybody left, that the truth came crashing down around me.  As I looked at my reflection in the bathroom mirror, I realised that I looked terrible.  I took the garbage out to the curb and when I came in from the cold, my lungs convulsed.  I took my temperature: it was 103 degrees F.

There could be no more denying it -- I was sick.  And the worst part for me was that I'd exposed my family and friends to the bug.  I'm still managing my symptoms with over the counter meds. and I just found out today that my sister and my young nephew are in the first stage of the sickness :-(

Did I get the flu shot this year?  Regrettably, I forgot.

Last year I volunteered at an elementary school and worked at a bookstore during an H1N1 outbreak and never got sick -- the difference?  Immunization.  It works people.  Next flu season I'll be among the first in line to get my shots.
